FAQ
FAQ
Why frozen?
Yes. Our Whole Ingredient Food is PhD-Vet Formulated, USDA-Certified, AAFCO-Approved, Human-Grade, and rigorously tested for E.coli, Salmonella, Listeria, and Micro (APCs).
Your dog is biologically primed to eat and absorb their daily intake of nutrients from a diet of raw meat. Unlike humans, your dog has a shorter gastrointestinal tract with higher levels of acidity which neutralizes any bad bacteria. (Also, contaminants cannot survive hostile, frozen states.)
Oh, and if you’re worried about cross-contamination after your dog eats raw meat and comes over to kiss you, don’t stress! Their saliva contains lysozyme — an enzyme that neutralizes bad bacteria.
Can I thaw the food?
Yes! While Maev recommends feeding frozen, you can definitely thaw your dog's portion to soften the texture if that is preferred. We recommend letting it sit at room temperature for 10–15 minutes before serving.
Is raw food safe?
Yes. Maev is human-grade, meaning Maev only sources USDA-certified proteins from USDA-inspected facilities—the same standards required for human food. Additionally, all of Maev’s ingredients undergo a proprietary safety process designed to mitigate any potential pathogens.
Maev works closely with trusted suppliers, accredited testing centers, leading universities, and industry experts to continuously uphold and improve our safety measures.
What's my dog's portion size?
Maev makes it easy. Your dog’s portion size depends on their weight, age, activity level, and health goals. Use the custom feeding calculator to get personalized recommendations based on your dog’s needs.

Portion Guide
What if my dog is a picky eater?
Having a picky eater is hard. With change, some dogs dive right in, while others take their time warming up to something new. If your dog is hesitant, try thawing the food for 10–15 minutes to soften the texture, mixing it with warm water, or adding their favorite treat on top. Maev recommends following the transition guide closely, and you can always reach out to the Maev Experts for additional tips and advice. Give it time—new routines take patience, and we’re here to help every step of the way.
